STAT CRUX
The first two words of the Latin text of the “Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World”, set the tone: Gaudium et Spes, « joy and hope ». This text with its ninety-three sections is the most monstrous of all the conciliar documents, as much from the viewpoint of its contents as of quantity. Mgr Le Couëdic, the Bishop of Troyes, summed it up in a sentence: « The Church has espoused the world », which thus justifies the Abbé de Nantes (photo, 13 June 2008) when he indignantly denounced this appalling adultery. When we went to fetch our Father at Hauterive where Mgr Daucourt had exiled him, we did not know that his survival was at stake. In his manuscript literal commentary of the texts of the Council, he was at no 64 of Chapter 3 of Gaudium et Spes, which deals with “Economic and Social Life”. We publish below the commentary of sections 1 to 22. Written with incredible alacrity, these pages save the honour of the Church by applying Article 11 of our Rule: « The brothers will not believe in the World or its enterprises; they will not hope in them; they will have no love for them… But they will believe in the Church; their life will be drawn from her hope and will continue in her charity. » |
