« THE MAN OF DREAMS » (Gn 37:19)

One day, our Father told us that he had had a dream. It was at the end of the Council, when he was publicly opposing the texts that were being promulgated. He was laying the blame on the Pope, on 2,400 bishops, and on the thousands of theologians and periti who were assisting them.

He truly thought that he was right against everyone: he said so; he published it. They are all heretics!

Now one night, he dreamed that he had died and appeared before God, and God condemned him: « I had come up against a God who did not have the same views as I. All the same, he let me have time to reflect. »

Note that this dream was premonitory, like that of Joseph in the Old Testament: the “great affair” of his entire life passed before his eyes.

« I went over my demonstration again on religious freedom, on ecumenism, on the Church espousing the world, on Judaism, and on the falsification of Holy Scripture, and these demonstrations were as solid as steel. The contradiction between God and me became more and more acute, until a certitude became clear: it was not God. I awoke. It had been a dream! »

There is no contradiction in God. That God could be in agreement with Vatican II is intrinsically impossible. But what a dreadful dream! The eternal life of each one of the protagonists is at stake in this controversy: the eternal life of the Popes and the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council, on the one hand, and that of their opponent on the other.

Twenty years later, in 1985, Cardinal Ratzinger raised a cry of alarm; Pope John Paul II responded by convening an extraordinary synod. It was a new nightmare. « What if Cardinal Ratzinger disappoints us? » There are two possibilities: « If he is the man of great theological faith that we suppose him to be, Cardinal Ratzinger could be the next Pope, the saviour of the Church, and then we would have a sign of hope. But if he is John Paul II’s disciple, he will capitulate, and the synod will become the great event that will consign his book on the catastrophic state of the Faith to oblivion. »

Events have proven this extraordinary premonition true:

1° Cardinal Ratzinger became Pope.

2° He has proved to be John Paul II’s disciple, in every respect true to the picture of him that our Father painted: « If Cardinal Ratzinger capitulates, it will be like the last safety device that will have broken in the Church. If charismatism, which is imperceptibly progressivist, continues to spread throughout the Church, and which has made a sort of tacit alliance with the subversion, is combined with modernism, its deficiencies will contribute to worldwide subversion. »

To this eventuality, which is borne out today in such a terrifying way, our Father put forward three reasons to hope against all hope:

1° We are in God’s hand.

« Our life, he said while contemplating the worst, will perhaps be more and more difficult. » Twenty years later, when we announced Ratzinger’s election to him in 2005, this word came back to his lips: « It will be difficult. »

« Let us take the blackest view of things, he continued. Well, we are in God’s hand! Every day of our life, we have this certitude that the Psalms, the Church’s prayer, give us. If we continue to pray, we will always have this consolation, this light: I am in the hand of God; I am in my Father’s hands. That is the consolation of the Psalms. That is why the Church has us recite them each day. Because God is faithful, good, and merciful, we ought to have confidence, and this confidence gives courage. Like the child who hides his hand in the hand of his father, who finds his assurance there: “I know that I am, that we are, in God’s hand.” »

This first way of viewing the worst is perfect, sanctifying, very sure, and meritorious. « From moment to moment, we can bear much. »

2° Death is our friend. It marks the limit and the end of the trial. « Deo et Mariæ gratias. I will sin no longer… » Death is the plenary act of the righteous man, who commends his soul into God’s hands without having capitulated to evil. But there is more: not only does death mark the end of all trials, it is also the act whereby the human being that we are, created in God’s likeness, can give as Jesus did on the Cross, proof of our fidelity to God. This is the victory, the “coup de majesté” that made men stand with pride in front of the execution post before those who were going to kill them. This is the meaning of the last vision of the Third Secret:

« Beneath the two arms of the Cross, there were two Angels, each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God. »

3° These words also answer the third question that the first two leave unresolved: « And the others, those who come after us? »

Answer: after my death, perhaps things will go from bad to worse, but they will make their way towards the Kingdom of God. This third answer is also necessary, and it draws all its value from the appalling toll that justifies our pessimism: God will rule. The Our Father has impressed this certitude on our souls by dint of having us petition: “Thy Kingdom come!” God will be the Father of those whom we leave behind. Thus, generations follow one another, the torch is passed on, and Christians know that they are approaching the Parousia, which is the Kingdom of God who comes in power and majesty. So, they are sure that victory is acquired once and for all, and it is already on the way. Our invoking the Sacred Heart is replete with this expectation: “Thy Kingdom come!”

Jesus affirmed before His judges that they would see the Son of God return with power to establish His reign. This magnificent, magisterial, divine affirmation is victorious over all despair.

In His holy agony, Jesus also experienced a « sorrow and distress » that man had never experienced before, nor would suffer after Him. But He affronted and surmounted them after having said, « Take courage, I have conquered the world », before disappearing into the night.

« I have conquered. » The world was conquered in advance.

We have lived without any support other than this certitude. The others who remain after us will be unsupported, and yet they will be sustained. Each of our deaths hastens the day of victory. The martyrs hasten the Kingdom of God. The Third Secret reveals this to us: it is by the succession of sacrifices that the day of Christ’s glorification is hastened.

The Sacred Heart of Jesus prepares his universal Reign through that of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which has been delayed by the forces of Satan that have been unleashed. But even if things must go from bad to worse, this unleashing of the powers of Hell is the harbinger of their defeat: in the end, the Lord of lords will give His Mother the honour of crushing the head of the Demon with Her virginal foot and of giving to the world a certain time of peace.

Thus, we despair no longer. We are overflowing with hope. This theological virtue is the light of day, the safety of our daily life, the security of our future. As members of the Phalangist Communion, we are sure of the victory, we do not fear death, since we do not consider it a catastrophe.
