FOR THE CHURCH
III. Against the Schismatic Drift

After the promulgation of the new Order of the Mass, the Abbé de Nantes boldly entered the battle against the liturgical reform. However, from the autumn of 1969, the theologian of the Catholic Counter-Reformation had a new and even more pressing concern, that of defending the unity of the Church against the schismatic drift.

THE MYSTICAL DOCTOR OF THE CATHOLIC FAITH.
Chapter 7: “ In the heart of the Church ”

After two years of philosophy, the seminarians became seniors, moved into the large building and entered “ theology. ” There, it was no longer philosophic reasoning that commanded, but divine Revelation explained by the Church. “ It was no longer work but recreation, or I should say, a permanent contemplation ! [...] We were listening to the Church and, through her, to Our Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Himself God. ”

The Psalms, inspired prayers

Exegetical study of the Psalms, by Brother Bruno Bonnet-Eymard.
« Like all religious, we “chant” the Divine Office night and day. The psalms form its substance. Nothing could be more familiar. Right to our death, they will be the inspired language of our continual prayer. »

Ps 1 : The joy of saint Joseph

Placed at the beginning of the collection of the psalms, it is an abridgement of all of Biblical revelation, this psalm recalls that two paths lie open before us: one of them leads to perdition, the other to salvation. There is no middle way.

Ps 2 : The Anointing of the Messiah King, Son of God, Son of Mary

Psalm 2 puts forth in all its cosmic breadth the merciless struggle that sets the righteous against the wicked. At the same time as they scoff at the righteous on earth, the wicked are actually waging war against God and His Messiah, Christ the King.

Ps 3 : Annunciation

This poem dedicated « to David », the father and figure of the Messiah who is to come, announces the salvation promised by God will come to pass. The Psalmist gave Him the name that the Angel Gabriel was to indicate to Mary and Joseph!

Ps 4 : The joy of sacrifice

This psalm can only be understood if we apply it to Jesus, who immolated Himself in a sacrifice of justice « for the many ». However, He knows that He will rise on the third day, in the glory of the Face of His Father, whose light He will one day make shine on us as well.

Ps 5 : « Neither schism nor heresy »

This psalm refers the struggle of the faithful Yahwists against the Samaritans, it is the “figure” of the struggle of Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and of the Immaculate, against Satan and his henchmen. This is why the Church finds each day in the Psalms the prayer that assists her in her combat against heresy and schism.

Ps 6 : Prayer of Agony

This psalm is not only a prayer of an ill person imploring his God, it is mainly the prayer of the Messiah in His Agony, that is, in His great combat, of which the psalms are a sort of prophetic chronicle.

Ps 7 : He shall return

In this psalm, the Messiah demands the intervention of the heavenly Judge, drawing His inspiration from the Poems of the Servant. It is not a question of dispensing one’s own justice, since it is Yahweh Himself Who is our justice. This psalm is already very close to the Gospel.

Ps 8 : « Glory and splendour »... to Jesus alone!

This psalm is to the glory of the man Jesus, Who applied this psalm to Himself in response to the recriminations of the scribes and the chief priests who were hypocritically scandalised at the shouts of the children crying out to His honour in the Temple: « Hosanna to the Son of David! »

Ps 9 : Jesus! Mary!

In expectation of Jesus and Mary, this psalm already proclaims the annunciation of the « daughter of Sion », the personification of the « poor of Israel », faithful Yahwists, whose faith is upright and whose hope is invincible.

Ps 10 : The Innocent one killed

The Psalm 10 is an appeal to God against the hypocritical and greedy false brothers who triumph insolently, in the interior of the Country. The thanksgiving gives way to an earnest prayer to Yahweh in order that He break His incomprehensible silence and His cruel inaction. This is topical!

Ps 11 : Hatred of schism

Even in our present darkness, God sees clearly. He recognises His own in the midst of the wicked and the impious, in that they long in their hearts for the Messiah who will redeem them from their sins by His suffering.

Ps 17 : Prayer against foreign invasion

VERSE 1. “Yahweh-Sedeq”, « He is Justice », a name that Jeremiah gave to the « wise king » who « will execute justice and judgement in the country. In his days, Judah will be saved and Israel will dwell in security. Here is the name with which He will be called: “Yahweh our justice”. » [...]

Ps 12 : Recovering unity

Psalm 12 describes the pride of the wicked that the « faithful » Yahwists came up against on their return from the Exile, a pride comparable to that of the builders of the Tower of Babel (Gn 11). Throughout the nine verses of this psalm, the parallel with the short account in the Book of Genesis – also nine verses – suggests itself.

Ps 13 : The victim's joy

The hope of the faithful Yahwists was focused on the Messiah during the five centuries that followed their return from the Exile. As a meditation on the prophecies, the Psalmist here announces the joy of the Messiah amidst His sufferings, for He was to offer Himself as Victim for the salvation of His people.

Ps 14 : “Jesus” of Israel

This psalm is dedicated « To David, the choirmaster ». This places it in the same context as the preceding Psalms, namely the persecutions and divisions following the return from the Exile. It is an act of hope in the coming of the Messiah, who is to be born from Sion and restore Israel.
